YouTube Comment Picker: How to Pick a Random Comment Winner Fairly

By Nektarios Livitsanos · Updated October 4, 2026

You asked viewers to comment to enter. Now you need one fair winner out of hundreds of names, ideally live, with nothing to argue about afterwards. Here is the whole process, from the video link to a verified winner.

Open the YouTube Comment Picker Spin it live on the wheel

Which tool to use

The fastest option is the YouTube Comment Picker: paste the link, filter by keyword, skip the creator's own comments, and every winner comes with a link to the exact comment. For an on-camera moment, the draw tools below can import the same comments.

Both GoPickaro draw tools can fetch commenters directly from YouTube. Pick the one that suits the moment:

Using the YouTube Comment Picker, step by step

The YouTube Comment Picker is built for exactly this job and adds filters the wheel does not have.

  1. Paste the link and press Load comments. The picker shows the video title and channel, then reads the comments in batches. You see three numbers: comments loaded, different commenters, and eligible entries.
  2. Set the rules.
    • One entry per person is on by default. People are matched by their channel, not by display name, so two viewers called "Alex" stay separate.
    • Exclude the channel's own comments keeps the creator out of the draw.
    • Comment must contain filters by a word or hashtag, ignoring capital letters. It matches anywhere in the comment, so pick a word that will not appear by accident.
    • Exclude these names removes moderators or team members, separated by commas.
  3. Choose the number of winners. Up to 50 in one draw, and nobody is picked twice. Set it to three and announce the order before you press the button: the first name wins, the other two are backups.
  4. Press Pick winner. Each winner appears with the comment text, the date, the number of likes and a link that opens that exact comment on YouTube.
  5. Press Copy results to keep the list with the links, then post it or paste it into your notes.

Step by step: importing into the wheel or Instant Draw

  1. Close entries first. Announce that the giveaway has ended, and optionally turn off new comments on the video. The import is a snapshot of the moment you press Fetch, so anyone who comments later is not included.
  2. Copy the video link. Any of these work: youtube.com/watch?v=…, youtu.be/…, a /shorts/ link or a /live/ link.
  3. Open the import. In the Spin Wheel or Instant Draw, click Import above the participants box and choose YouTube Comments.
  4. Choose the options.
    • Unique names only (on by default): each commenter gets one entry, however many times they commented. Turn it off only if your rules say every comment counts.
    • Keep @ prefix: shows handles as @name, which makes the winner easier to find on YouTube.
    • Append to existing: adds the commenters to names already in the box, useful when combining entries from two videos.
  5. Press Fetch Comments. GoPickaro shows how many comments it read and how many participants that produced, for example 412 participants (538 total comments). Say both numbers out loud if you are live.
  6. Import and review. Press Import. Remove your own channel and any team members if your rules exclude them.
  7. Draw. Spin once per prize, or set the number of winners in Instant Draw. Every result comes from your browser's secure random generator, as explained on our fairness page.
  8. Save the proof. Print or save the winners list, and keep your screen recording.

What the import counts, and what it does not

GoPickaro reads comments through the official YouTube Data API. That brings a few rules worth knowing before you promise anything to your audience:

How a random YouTube comment picker works

Every honest comment picker does the same four things, and it helps to know them when you explain the draw to your audience:

  1. It reads the public comments through YouTube's official Data API. No sign-in is needed, because the comments are public already. The API returns top-level comments in batches of 100, which is why large videos take a few seconds.
  2. It builds the entry list by applying your rules: duplicates removed, the creator excluded, the keyword checked.
  3. It picks at random. On GoPickaro the eligible list is shuffled with your browser's cryptographically secure random generator, so every entry has exactly the same chance.
  4. It shows the evidence: the counts before the draw and a link to each winning comment after it.

Can a comment picker be rigged?

People search for "YouTube comment picker hack" for two reasons: viewers who suspect a draw was fixed, and entrants hoping to raise their chances. Both deserve a straight answer.

For entrants

There is no trick that makes a fair picker choose you. The only things that change your chances are in the rules: whether extra comments count as extra entries, and whether your comment is a top-level comment that is visible when the comments are loaded. Any site or video selling a "hack" for comment pickers is a scam.

For creators

Any picker runs on the creator's own device, so in principle a creator could draw again and again until they like the name. No tool can make that impossible. What makes a draw trustworthy is how you run it:

Verify the winner and avoid giveaway scams

Warning: almost every YouTube giveaway attracts impersonators. Fake accounts copy your channel name and profile picture, reply to commenters "Congratulations, you won!" and ask them to message on Telegram or WhatsApp, or to pay a "shipping fee".

  1. Announce how you will contact the winner before the draw, for example "I will reply to your comment and pin it" or "check the community post".
  2. Say clearly that you never ask for money and never contact winners through Telegram or WhatsApp. Pin that message.
  3. Ask the winner to prove it's them. Reply to the winning comment with a short code and ask them to post that code in a new comment from the same account, then email you from the address listed in your rules.
  4. Set a claim deadline, for example 7 days, and state in your rules that you will draw again if the prize is not claimed.
  5. Hide scam replies. In YouTube Studio you can remove comments and hide users. Adding words like "telegram" and "whatsapp" to your blocked words list stops many of them.

YouTube's contest rules in brief

YouTube allows contests, but the creator is fully responsible for them. According to YouTube's contest policy, you need to:

This guide is practical advice, not legal advice. For high-value prizes, have your rules checked by a professional.

Frequently asked questions

No. Only top-level comments are imported.

How many YouTube comments can GoPickaro import?

Up to 5,000 top-level comments per video, newest first. For more, load an exported CSV or TXT file.

Can one person win twice by commenting many times?

Not with Unique names only turned on. Each commenter then has exactly one entry.

Yes, for comments posted under the Short or the stream. Live chat messages are not included.

How does a YouTube random comment picker work?

It reads the public comments through the YouTube Data API, applies your rules, shuffles the eligible entries with a secure random generator and links each winner to their comment.

Can a YouTube comment picker be hacked to choose me?

No. A fair picker gives every eligible entry the same chance. Offers to "hack" a picker are scams.

Do I need to sign in or install anything?

No. Both tools run in your browser for free, with no account.
