How to Run a Twitch Giveaway

By Nektarios Livitsanos · Updated October 4, 2026

A Twitch giveaway has one big advantage over every other platform: the draw happens live, in front of the people who entered. Get the rules and the entry window right, and the draw itself becomes a highlight of the stream instead of a source of arguments in chat.

For the general process on any platform, including a rules template, see how to run a fair giveaway.

What Twitch's Terms of Service require

Twitch allows contests and sweepstakes, and its Terms of Service set four simple conditions. As the streamer:

"This is a promotion by [Your Name]. Twitch does not sponsor or endorse this promotion and is not responsible for it."

The easiest way to cover it: add the sentence to your panel rules, put it in the chat command that explains the giveaway, and say it once on stream before the draw.

Keep entry free

In many countries a prize decided by chance becomes a lottery if people must pay to enter, and lotteries are tightly regulated. On Twitch, subscriptions and Bits cost money. That makes "subscribers only" or "cheer 100 Bits to enter" risky, even though the Terms of Service do not name them.

The safe pattern is one free way to enter for everyone. If you want to thank subscribers, give them perks that are not decided by chance, such as a sub-only emote or a separate thank-you for every sub, rather than extra tickets in a paid-only draw. This guide is practical advice, not legal advice, so check your local rules for anything valuable.

Ways to collect entries

Chat bot giveaway featureYesBusy chatsCheck the bot exports or shows the full entry list

Set a clear entry window

Announce when entries open and close, for example "type !enter in chat for the next 10 minutes". When time is up, say out loud that entries are closed. Anything typed after that does not count, and saying it on stream ends the "but I typed it!" discussion before it starts.

Turning chat into a clean list

If your chat bot shows the list of entrants, copy it from there. Otherwise copy the chat messages from the entry window and let Instant Draw pull out the usernames:

  1. In Instant Draw open Import → Paste comments and choose Twitch.
  2. Paste the messages. Lines like nikos_k: !enter become nikos_k. A time at the start of the line, such as 12:34 nikos_k: !enter, is ignored.
  3. Keep Unique names only ticked, so someone who typed !enter five times counts once.
  4. Check the preview count, then press Import.
12:34 nikos_k: !enter → nikos_k 12:34 Maria_P: !enter → Maria_P 12:35 nikos_k: !enter → (duplicate, removed)

Remove anyone the rules exclude, such as your moderators, before you draw.

The draw on stream

  1. Put the browser tab with the picker on screen, with desktop audio on so viewers hear the wheel tick.
  2. Say the disclaimer and the number of entries.
  3. Draw. The Spin Wheel makes the best moment for one or a few winners, and its second ring can pick the prize in the same spin. For many winners, Instant Draw picks them all at once.
  4. Draw one or two backup winners in the same session, in order, in case the winner has left the stream or never replies.
  5. Ask the winner to type a code word in chat, so everyone sees they are present.

Results on GoPickaro come from your browser's cryptographically secure random generator. Keep the VOD or clip the draw, and the whole process stays on record. The fairness page explains how the randomness works.

Delivering the prize safely

Warning: fake accounts with names close to yours whisper or message winners asking for payment or a login. Say on stream and in your panels that you never ask for money, passwords or card details.

Quick checklist

Frequently asked questions

Are giveaways allowed on Twitch?

Yes. The Terms of Service allow them, with you as the responsible promoter and the required disclaimer shown or read out.

What is the exact Twitch giveaway disclaimer?

"This is a promotion by [Your Name]. Twitch does not sponsor or endorse this promotion and is not responsible for it."

Can I do a subscriber-only giveaway?

It is risky, because a subscription costs money and paid entry to a chance draw can count as a lottery. Offer a free way to enter too.

How do I stop people entering many times?

Say in the rules that each viewer counts once, and keep Unique names only ticked when you import the list.

Can I run one giveaway on Twitch and YouTube at the same time?

Yes. Import YouTube commenters with the YouTube comment picker or Instant Draw, then paste the Twitch chat with Append to existing ticked. Say in the rules whether someone entering on both counts once or twice.

Platform rules change, so check Twitch's current Terms of Service before you launch.
